Adverbs

They modify the verb and identify where, when or how the action is carried out. They also show time and manner as well as intensify adjectives.

Modify verbs: time, place, manner

Modify Adjectives: intensifiers 

Modify other adverbs: intensifiers

Modify sentences: sentence adverbs 

Flat Adverbs: One syllable adverbs that share the same form as their corresponding adjectives. 

Comparative Adverbs: add -er or more

Superlative Adverbs: add est or most


To differentiate between adjectives and adverbs:

Action Verb + Adverb: run quickly, dance well, work hard

Linking Verb + Adjective: feel happy, be ready, seem good. 


Adverb Complements: Words that complete the meaning of an Adverb

Adverb Phrase: When an adverb acts as the head of a clause it's an adverb phrase.
